For this portrait, I didn't really have a set goal in mind. It started as just a sketch based off of a photo I found, but I liked it and continued. I stuck with just the blue-grey hue, and focused more on getting the values right. I also used the orange background, which is the portrait's complimentary color, to make the blue start out, as it just looked grey on a neutral background.

I made these sketches at a MIAD Illustration Pre-College class. We were given an hour or so to come up with a concept art for a fantasy environment. We were also told not to "sketch," but instead to block out values to create a dimensional space. I started with four different sketches and picked my favorite. From here, I made a more detailed version of the sketch in black and white to block in the values, and then added color. (Made July 2021)
For this piece, I used Procreate and wanted to try out different lighting since I don't really experiment with it that often. I also tried out the symmetry tool, so each side is a mirror image of the other. There isn't any particular reason I drew a clown, I just wanted to play with fun clothes and colors! |
